 | 28th Oct 2009 | Three Spires Jc / Bedlam Lane
I am looking into re-creating a scale model based on Three Spires Jc / Bedlam Lane which is situated apx 3 miles north of Coventry on the Coventry - Nuneaton branch line.
Three Spires was the site of the junction for a goods line running south east to connect with the Coventry - Rugby line at Humber Road Jct. Frequently known as the Coventry avoiding line it serviced a number of industries along the route. In October 1963 the junction at Humber Road was removed, the line being worked as a long siding from Three Spires Junction to Gosford Green to serve the Chrysler car plant.
The trackbed of the abandoned avoiding line would later form the basis for major improvements to the A444 Coventry - Nuneaton road.
I am looking to re-create Three Spires Jc in 2mm as it was in the early to late 80's from where the Coventry avoiding line originally joined, Three Spires LNWR signal box, Lythalls Lane road bridge up to Bedlam Lane level crossing which includes the complex point work which allowed trains (coal traffic) to enter / exit Three Spires reception sidings where the coal trains were then split and taken to Keresley Colliery / Homefire plant in small rakes by there own Barclay / Hunslet 0-4-0 shunter's also class 08's could be seen.
Alot of research for my project has been taken from www.derbysulzers.com/threespires.html also from personal photo's and help from others. It is a great help that i have the original track layout pre and post 1988 when the diamond crossover was removed. Updated 29-10-2009

 | 4th Nov 2008 | Under Construction (Griffin Road re-born)
I purchased Griffin Road in early 2008 with the intentions of bringing it back to its former exhibition standard
First impresions were well 'Run down' 'tired' and in need of restoration especially the scenic side of things
The main areas that need alot of work are station platforms etc, a new loco stabling point, oil terminal and steel terminal needing extra detail and signs also the main building needing a new roof, also in some areas new points had to be installed, new ballasting, track re-placing, electrics also signalling will play a big part on the layout (being an S & T myself) basically the whole layout is in need of a makeover, so here we go..........
Layout Info
2mm N Gauge 1.48 scale
12' x 1' 6" fully portable exhibition layout (3 4' Boards) Soon to be 16' x 1' 6"
2 operaters
British outline Circa early 90s to 99 but some more modern will be seen at times
Standard 12v dc control
Fully working colour light signals also ground postion shunt signals and call on postion lights for shunt moves at station
Typical trains of the times being Regional Railways North west club trains 31's & 37's and various units 101 / 108 / 156 / 158 (from Regional Railways North West / First North Western) also long distance Central Trains units 156 / 158 & 170
Large steel terminal and oil terminal
Alot of attention has been paid to detailing - in my opinion its the small details that make a layout
There is still alot to do before its debut in 2009 at Shepshed Loughborough so watch this space as more pictures are being added reguarly

Last Update 21-10-09 Work is now underway of the extension to the station end of the layout. I am going to add another 4ft. Platforms 1 & 2 will be extended to hold a full 8+2 West coast HST rake (1Dxx London Euston - Griffin Road - 1Axx Griffin Road - London Euston) Platforms 3 & 4 will continue through to a carriage sidings which will include run round facilities also a carriage wash. Hopefully most will be complete by March 6th 2009 when Griffin Road will be attending ChurchRail Exhibition in Warwick......
